Water Safety Week – Belgrave Heated Outdoor Pool Wins the Prize!

15-03-2012

Aquatics & Recreation Victoria (ARV) held a very successful Water Safety Week in the first week of summer with 184 facilities state-wide signing up to participate in the promotion of safety and survival skills as part of the “Play it Safe by the Water” promotion. Aquatic facilities around the state ran ‘fun days’ featuring swimming lessons, water safety displays, colouring competitions and other educational programs. A feature of the event from an industry point of view was a mass participation competition event; “What’s the BIG idea – Show us what you’re doing?” this competition utilised social media as the main promotional tool and as a result ARV received a huge response.

The Team at the Belgrave Heated Outdoor Pool took to the pool deck armed with amply talent, pool safety props and a video recorder to record the YouTube clip below. After viewing the YouTube clip you will know why Belgravia Leisure’s talented Team was awarded first prize in the “What’s the BIG idea” competition!

Aylie Spence, then Manager of the Belgrave Pool (newly appointed Manager of Noble Park Aquatic Centre) was proudly presented with the award by Michael Klim, the event’s ambassador at a function at Melbourne’s Federation Square.

Stop Press – Special mention should also be given to Leigh Ryan, lifeguard extraordinaire and team member at Wyndham Leisure and Events Centre. Leigh has recently returned from the World Pool Lifesaving Cup in Warendorf, Germany. Leigh competed in 7 events and won a gold medal in the 4 x 25 mannequin carry relay (breaking the Australian record along the way). Well done Leigh!
